Following the reports of detection of contamination of eggs with melamine in China, Kenya Bureau of Standards has imposed a ban on the importation of eggs and other eggs related products from China and proximity territories with immediate effect.

The related eggs products will include noodles, mayonnaise, animal feeds and animal feed inputs.

This is in addition to the earlier announcement on the ban on milk and milk related products and strict surveillance on all food and foodstuffs from China and related countries.

This exercise will be in force until the affected products are proved to be free from the contaminants.

Following a global alarm of milk and milk related products and foods from the People’s Republic of China and proximity territories, Kenya Bureau of Standards announces the following measures aimed at protecting the health and safety of Kenyans to take effect immediately:
All milk and milk related products from China and proximity territories have been banned from entering Kenya until further notice and review.

All foodstuffs from China and proximity territories shall undergo 100% inspection in Kenya and the countries of origin before shipping.
Foodstuffs and related products already in the Kenyan market outlets from China and proximity territories shall undergo surveillance to establish health and safety for our nationals and visitors
